Interim Controller (Biotech) 

We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to join a Biotech company with operations in both Boston, MA and Paris, France. The role involves providing financial leadership and support through the second half of 2024, including preparation for the 2024 year-end close in Q1 2025. A strong understanding of French tax regulations is ideal for success in this role.

This is a 3+ month contract opportunity, paying up to $75/hour depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage cash flow for the organization
  • Lead financial control activities
  • Implement and oversee financial and accounting operations
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial accounts in an international setting
  • Supervise and coordinate monthly and annual financial closings, ensuring compliance with legal standards
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting tasks such as cash management, invoicing, payments, asset management, and expense reports
  • Prepare and coordinate preliminary operations for interim and annual financial statements
  • Handle tax filings and VAT declarations
  • Prepare consolidated financial accounts for the French subsidiary
  • Assist in the development and management of budgets
  • Ensure compliance with accounting practices, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures
  • Manage internal and external audits
  • Support the external firm in preparing the annual research tax credit declaration
  • Identify and propose grants that align with business objectives
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including auditors, legal advisors, and the board of directors
  • Manage and support the accounting team in France

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Public accounting and audit experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in financial roles
  • Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency with accounting software, ideally SAP byDesign, and strong Excel skills
  • Knowledge of research tax credits and VAT tax policies
