Controller with Construction Experience – Greater Boston

Our client, an award-winning construction engineering company with an international presence, is looking to hire a Controller! The Controller will be a key player and provide financial control and office support to a very busy team. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and will have previous accounting experience in an engineering/construction firm.


  • Prepare and present monthly financial accounts and annual company financial budgets to the Director of Finance
  • Manage the company’s cashflow and cashflow projections
  • Develop and grow relationships with external stakeholders such as company auditors, bankers, lawyers and insurers
  • Support the annual financial audit performed by external audit partners
  • Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers
  • Be in charge of the reconciliation of company bank accounts and general ledgers
  • Create backlog reports and job cost reports to track project performance
  • Support payroll processing and administration
  • Manage the company’s business insurance including renewal and audit support
  • Oversee the employee benefits program including 401k, health insurance and other company benefits
  • Manage the payment and accounting of federal and multiple state taxes
  • Register the company to perform business in new states as required
  • Provide project costing support to the field engineers
  • Other ad-hoc projects as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA or Masters Degree
  • 5+ years of industry experience in an accounting role
  • Experience with NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Nav, or Timberline
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
