Assistant Controller – Banking- Worcester, MA
We are seeking candidates for an Assistant Controller position with an industry leading Credit Union located in Worcester, MA. This position will be responsible for all daily operational functions of the Accounting Department and to ensure that the financial records of the credit union are kept accurate and timely. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller to ascertain and update policies and procedures as necessary to comply with GAAP, internal, external audits and all pertinent credit union regulations. The ideal candidate will have 5-10+ years of accounting experience and MUST HAVE previous banking or credit union experience.
This is a permanent position that will pay $80-100k (depending on experience). This position is required to be onsite 5 days/week.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure postings are done accurately by GL & cost center
- Work with the staff on resolving outstanding items in a timely manner
- Establish proper cross training is completed to ensure coverage due to absences and/or vacations
- Responsible for administering pre-paids, fixed assets and maintaining accuracy of GL’s
- Assist in administering month end closings and monthly reporting to be provided to different committees, Boar of Directors, and Senior Management
- Assist in the tracking and maintenance of the investment portfolio. Duties include the recording of purchases, maturities, premium/discount accretion, interest accruals, interest payments and market values
- Remain knowledgeable in all functions of the department by accepting cross training opportunities from other areas
- Complete the quarterly FR2900 and 5300 report accurately and by prescribed deadline
- Understand and comply with all BSA Regulations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly corporate bank reconciliations, along with reviewing, researching, and clearing items in a timely manner
- Process incoming/outgoing daily wires
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency
- Provide input into department’s goal setting process
- Develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Follow guidelines and policies intended to limit risk exposure for the organization and its members.
- Apply advanced knowledge and logic to transactions and member interactions including but not limited to fraudulent transactions, compliance to policies, security guidelines and the Credit Union’s reputation
- Effectively communicates and engages with members via in-person, phone, or email
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5-10+ years of accounting experience
- Previous Banking or Credit Union experience is REQUIRED
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end-year end close process
- Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- High level of confidentiality and accuracy
- Strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change
