Accounting Manager – Cambridge, MA

Our client, a technology platform with millions of subscribers, is looking to add an Accounting Manager to their finance team. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, owning the month-end close processes, conducting financial analysis, improving internal controls, and answering to requests from external auditors. This role will report to the Senior Manager of Accounting and oversee two direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead month-end close process, including assessing complex areas such as revenue recognition and accruals, reviewing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, and preparing financial reporting
  • Oversee the day-to-day invoicing, payable, payroll, and cash management activities
  • Develop, implement, and document new policies and procedures to enhance controls and processes within the department and company
  • Manage external audit process (financial statement, bank, 401k, etc.)
  • Own various technical accounting assessments, including preparing memorandums & analysis and consulting with external technical accounting firm(s)
  • Interpret and independently review financial data to discover insights and trends
  • Provide accounting support to other departments for special projects/ad-hoc reporting and analysis as necessary
  • Manage and develop a team by providing day-to-day oversight and career mentorship for staff

Requirements:

  • 4-8 years of total accounting experience
  • Experience within public accounting with technology clients or a mix of working in a public accounting company and in a technology company
  • CPA or Masters in Accounting strongly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting skills, including revenue recognition ASC 606, capitalization of web development, and/or stock-based compensation
  • Ability to work as a team player with a can-do attitude and to assist with tasks such as data entry as well as strategic planning and execution
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
