Associate Data Engineer-hybrid/Boston

Our client, a leading private multi-asset alternative investment firm located in Boston, MA is looking for a highly motivated and well-rounded Data Engineer to join their Private Investments data team.  This position will have responsibility for technical design, implementation, support and maintenance of the firm’s strategic data warehouse, SQL database assets, and data ingestion and integration processes. This candidate will also play a key role in performing analysis on internal and externally provided data used to drive business decisions.


  • Enhance existing data platform and create new data solutions for firm’s most important business priorities
  • Develop and support cloud-based data ingestion and processing infrastructure
  • Design and support dashboards in our BI platforms
  • Partner closely with on and offshore technical resources
  • Work closely with investment professionals to help them access big data (internal or external) for better deal diligence or value creation using our analytics tool set
  • Work with data scientists to build and support data pipelines for their models


  • Solid understanding of databases, data transformations, and data storage techniques
  • Expertise in developing with Python, utilizing tools such as numpy and pandas
  • Experience working with Server/Serverless Cloud database technologies such as Snowflake
  • Experience with Kimball / Star schema data warehousing design
  • Experience designing data schema and operating internal data warehouses and SQL databases
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Familiarity working with web scraping and alternate data sets supporting investing
  • Familiarity building dashboards using Tableau or power BI is a plus


  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical training and professional work experience
  • 3+ years of experience developing software applications in Python or R
  • Experience with Big Data & Steaming technologies is required
  • Experience with Data Visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI is required
  • Experience with Buy Side / Private Equity or other Asset management firm technology is strongly preferred
  • Solid command of software design & architectural patterns
  • Must possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability in developing relationships with stakeholders, communicating project/program status, and understanding detailed business requirements
  • Can-do attitude: willingness to take ownership and drive projects to completion
  • Creative problem-solving ability and sound judgment – ability to use own initiative and take responsibility for decisions
