Vice President, Business Development

The VP will develop a viable pipeline of new business opportunities with measurable results from contracts won. The VP will focus on the development of revenue and durable profitability through the targeted provision of quality, client-oriented services, and clinical operations services. This critical role is accountable for all revenue generating efforts in the company.

The VP serves as the market facing ambassador for CCS’s services, brand, and mission. The VP provides client negotiations, internal commercial process implementation, and market trend analyzes relevant to CCS market positioning and focus.

This role is for an experienced senior BD executive, able to shoulder the responsibility of revenue and commercial growth. Development of a process and a strong team ethos for closing business with minimal oversight CEO is essential. Additionally, mentoring and execution of department goals and process improvement are within this remit.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for implementing the commercial strategic goals under the direction of the CEO or designee. Responsible for commercial performance, development and implementation of strategic priorities, and executive oversight for developing and closing clients
  2. Responsible for building and maintaining strong positive client relationships with a constant awareness of Good Research Practices (GRP). Lead external customer and partner meetings and follow through on actions and projects as needed. Assumes Commercial point person for high visibility clients and projects, responsible conversion of account
  3. Serve as a brand and product ambassador at events, trade shows, and other promotional activities to increase awareness of CCS and its mission
  4.  Develop and deploy a plan and process to build CCS brand awareness through social media and opinion leader marketing
  5. Success will be defined and monitored through a well-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) of sales process, management of client development and conversion to executed client agreement
  6. Achieve company goals by adherence to contract pricing and margin guidelines as agreed with CEO and CFO
  7. Apply experience and expertise to leadership of Commercial team as it relates to understanding the healthcare market vertical with an emphasis on Clinical Research Operations/Services
  8. All other duties as assigned and specified

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in managing multi-discipline global commercial life science research BD teams
  • Documented progressive leadership, with Profit and Loss and revenue generation history
  • Experience in the cardiovascular therapeutic area or demonstrated expertise preferred
  • Strong leadership skills including budgeting, project-related financial management, problem solving, employee development and contract negotiation
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to express complex ideas
  • Excellent executive functions, organizational, interpersonal skills, and conflict resolution skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to interact with all levels of staff to coordinate and execute commercial activities
  • Strong control and influence skills
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of the Biopharmaceutical and Biomedical research outsourcing market
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to reason independently for the purpose of assessing and recommending specific sales solutions
  • Ability to set baseline targets, track trends, prioritize pipeline activities and implement client development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to form develop and maintain strong working relationships across functional boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, and grow a Commercial team
  • Extensive demonstrated experience directing a Commercial team
  • Experience with pharmaceutical, biologic and/or device product development
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and ICH GCP guidelines for conducting clinical research
  • Strong presentation skills and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional ability to conceptualize, develop and manage process solutions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting financial management and forecasting

Previous Management Requirements:

  • US Masters level or equivalent in a health-related field or advanced business degree (6 year or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable direct Profit and Loss (P&L) leadership and accountability
  • At least eight (8) years of demonstrated management experience selling to Biopharmaceutical industry OR appropriate commercial experience with ten (10) years of Biopharmaceutical management experience
  • Success in establishment of a commercial team and multi-factor business development and marketing infrastructure
