Manufacturing Facilities Engineer

Amazing opportunity to be part of a global medical device company that is helping to impact peoples lives. Our client has made their Pittsburgh, PA new state-of the-art site their largest U.S. manufacturing operation and they have created a new Facilities Engineer position for their team. 

The Facilities Engineer will spearhead and develop procedures and systems to assure that in their maintenance operations are appropriate, meet good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements, are within validated parameters and are sufficient in determining the ability for continuing operations. Assures facility support systems and critical processes are accurately represented on AutoCAD Drawings. 

The candidate Assures alterations, modifications made to critical systems are performed in accordance with current industry practices, cGMP’s, and building and safety codes. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Design, layout, installation and validation of compressed air systems, boilers and steam distribution systems, pure steam generation and distribution systems, DI-RO-WFI systems, process chilled water systems, cooling  towers cooling tower water systems, HVAC air handling systems, packaged HVAC systems, control systems, electrical service and distribution.
  • Assists with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities when applicable and appropriate
  • Assures all facilities support equipment and critical utilities operate within parameters
  • Assures an ongoing benchmark of energy consumption associated with facilities processes, identifies opportunities for improvement and creates action plans for implementation.
  • Assures compliance to GMP requirements, adherence to SOPs and use of the change control system
  • Assures up-to-date drawings of new and/or existing facilities, machinery, equipment and processes
  • Contribute to and manages preparing facility Capital budgets. Makes recommendation for machinery and equipment overhaul, renovations or replacement.
  • Contributes to and manages preparing, tracking and controlling departmental Expense budgets
  • Monitors operations of facility support systems and critical utilities; make recommendations to improve efficiency and reliability and to avoid unplanned downtime.
  • Participates in Business Continuity Planning exercises
  • Provides guidance and direction in optimizing plant energy consumption. Provides benchmarking of consumption and makes recommendations for improvements to reduce consumption
  • Provides guidance and direction of facility maintenance and construction activities.
  • Provides guidance and direction of projects involving alterations to facilities support systems and critical utilities
  • Provides troubleshooting of facilities operational issues
  • Owns planned maintenance for building utilities and infrastructure
  • Serves as project leader of facilities projects. Controls project schedules and budgets

Candidate Education:

  • Required Bachelor’s Degree Engineering

Candidate Experience:

  • Required 5 plus years related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Preferred recent experience working in facilities at regulated environment (medical device/drug manufacturing preferred) operation.

Candidate Skills:

  • Experience with design, construction, operation of controlled environments including clean rooms, laminar flow stations, sterility suites, fume exhaust and bio containment stations.
  • Experienced with maintenance and servicing of facilities support systems and critical equipment, supervision of contractors and suppliers providing services and materials.
  • Electrical Schematic Print Reading

  • Support resolution of production plant downtime events
  • Verbal and Written Communication
  • Technical Writing (Validation documents, Procedures, and Instructions)

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean methods
