Data Consumption Engineer

Our client, a leading global asset manager with headquarters in Boston, MA is seeking a Data Consumption Engineer/Data API Engineer to join them in a full-time role. They are building a modern technology platform and are looking for a highly-motivated, data obsessed individual contributor to re-imagining the entire tech stack, from the ground up. What Will You Do?

  • Proactively lead the development of Data API’s
  • Design and develop intuitive interfaces with a standard paradigm
  • Develop consumable data structures that are consumable with zero-friction
  • Creatively engineer API’s that will provide high-throughput data and are scalable
  • Develop and maintain cookie cutter templates for adding new API’s
  • Create a golden standard with guidelines for everyone to embrace and follow
  • Create and manage SDK artifact’s for multiple languages
  • Manage a collection of scalable microservices for stream/batch consumption
  • Develop modular, reusable and testable code
  • Engineer with security and compliance as a foundation
  • Work with Quality Assurance (QA) to improve and automate testing practices
  • Partner with the Product team to identify data, application, and reporting needs
  • Write production-grade code from the start, and never be afraid to just-start
  • Prototyping new ideas you have in code and sharing quick demo’s internally
  • Define API’s that empower fast and intuitive data discovery, exploration and action
  • Create abstractions to unify relationships between disparate data models/systems
  • Shape the future of how teams at they share knowledge and collaborate with data


  • BS/MS (CS or related major preferred)
  • 7+ years of programming experience
  • Experience with microservices and serverless architectures
  • Experience with fast data API’s like gRPC
  • Experience with various methods of constructing an API
  • Experience writing intuitive API’s and documentation
  • Experience with consumption by streams, and data lake
  • Experience with various languages: Python, Java, Golang, Kotlin, etc.
  • Experience with some schema design and data modeling
  • Experience analyzing data to identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies
  • Experience managing and communicating plans to internal clients
  • Experience with major cloud providers like AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Experience with event-sourcing and event driven architectures, as message brokers like RabbitMQ,Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with application instrumentation, for telemetry/observability like Datadog or OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with Git and modern best practices for releases, PR's, GitOps, CI/CD, etc.
  • High attention to detail and supreme quality, while balancing both practicality and value-creation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Financial Services industry
