A distinguished law firm that is well known in the Boston, New York and DC markets contacted us after their corporate controller of over 20 years announced that he was planning to retire. The controller handled every aspect of the law firm’s financials including billing, collections, taxes and interaction with the outside vendors including their CPA firm. Recently, the controller had been put in charge of identifying two new systems to handle the firm’s General Ledger and Billing. When the controller announced to the partners that he was planning to retire, the law firm reached out to their CPA firm to assist in finding a replacement. Even with their collective efforts, after 6 months they were still unable to identify anyone to fill the existing controller’s shoes.
While the controller had identified the new systems that were to be put into place (Elite for billing and QuickBooks for the General Ledger), he had not begun to implement either of the new systems. The controller had one week left at the firm when Daley And Associates was contacted by the law firm’s CPA to provide interim resources. Inside of two days Daley And Associates met with the client to get an understanding of the skills required and the culture at the firm.
Daley And Associates sourced, qualified and placed an Interim Controller who not only conducted the day-to-day functional responsibilities of the previous controller, but also over saw the implementation of both Elite and QuickBooks. The candidate was eventually converted to fulltime controller of the firm.
